Award-winning Navajo artists Carl and Irene Clark are known for their detailed micro-fine inlay work. These sterling silver earrings feature the Rainbow Man motif created with turquoise, lapis lazuli, red coral, mother-of-pearl and jet. The colorful stones are individually cut and arranged into a precise design across each earring.

Carl Clark
Carl Clark of the Tł’ízí Łání (Many Goat Clan) and Irene Clark of the Edge Water Clan are Navajo silversmiths known for their micro-fine inlay jewelry. Carl began teaching himself silversmithing in 1973 while working at a silversmithing supply store in Winslow, Arizona, and later shared the craft with Irene. Together, they developed a distinctive style known for its precision and detailed stonework.
Their jewelry is made with thin slices of natural stone, including turquoise, coral, lapis, sugilite and jet. The stones are laminated and carefully hand-cut to create intricate inlay patterns. A single bracelet may contain as many as 5,000 to 6,000 individual stone pieces, creating the appearance of a miniature mosaic set in sterling silver.
Carl generally designs larger pieces such as bracelets, bolos and buckles, while Irene focuses on earrings, rings and necklaces. Their award-winning work reflects both skilled craftsmanship and Navajo cultural heritage and has been featured in exhibitions, publications and collections throughout the United States and internationally
