Wichita artist Dina Huntinghorse handcrafted these earrings in solid 14K gold, featuring high-grade Lone Mountain turquoise. The overlay design is inspired by Avanyu, the horned water serpent.

High-grade Lone Mountain turquoise displays vivid blue-green color accented by a distinctive dark matrix. Hand-finished overlay work creates depth and contrast, allowing the turquoise to remain the focal point of the design.

Dina Huntinghorse

Dina Huntinghorse is an award-winning Wichita artist from the Great Plains of southwest Oklahoma. Growing up surrounded by horses, buffalo, wolves, and the natural landscape inspired a lifelong love of wildlife that continues to influence her jewelry today. Horses, in particular, have become one of the signature themes in her work.

She first expressed that passion through drawing and painting before learning traditional beadwork from her aunt, creating beautifully crafted deerskin purses. In 1989, Dina began studying jewelry making under her late husband, Herbert Taylor, who taught her the Navajo techniques of inlay and overlay.

After Herbert’s passing in 1996, Dina dedicated herself to continuing the art they shared while developing a style uniquely her own. Her jewelry reflects the traditions of Native American craftsmanship while celebrating the beauty of the Plains, the Southwest, and the animals that have inspired her throughout her life.

Dina’s work has been recognized with numerous awards, including honors from the Santa Fe Indian Market, the Heard Museum, and the Autry Museum of the American West, and is represented in collections throughout the United States.
